OGDEN (ABC4 News) – One man is dead and another is in the Weber County Jail after a Saturday night shooting outside of Super Groceries at 511 31st Street.

On Monday, flowers and candles marked the spot where a young man in his 20s was shot on the sidewalk just before midnight. Neighbors told ABC4 News that he tried to run but he only got as far the store’s front doorway.

“The police saw that he was unconscious and was on the sidewalk,” Ogden Police Lieutenant Will Farr said. “While police were on the scene the male did succumb to his injuries.”

Just around the corner at a house on Adams Avenue, police located and arrested 23-year-old Everardo Guadarrama-Garcia who they say admitted to the murder.

“He did give a confession to the officers who investigated,” Lt. Farr said.

According to an Affidavit of Probable Cause “…Evarardo stated in Spanish (I did it). When asked what he did, Evarardo stated in Spanish (I killed him).  When asked who he had killed, Evarardo stated, ‘Mauricio’.”

Guadaramma-Garcia also told police he had smoked methamphetamine earlier in the evening.

During a search of his apartment, officers found drug paraphernalia and the .45 caliber handgun he said he used. He was booked into jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault, obstruction of justice and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

As for the identity of the victim,  Ogden police said as of Monday afternoon they are not releasing his name because they are having trouble reaching his relatives.
