TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – A 36-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after police say he threatened a convenience store clerk with a hatchet.
Just before 1:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven located at 3180 West 5400 South police say the suspect, Cory Whipple, walked into the store demanded cash from the clerk while wielding a hatchet.
According to police the clerk wouldn’t cooperate, so Whipple ran out of the store and attempted to rob another employee outside.
A witness told police he followed the suspect vehicle to about 1900 West 3300 South before losing track of him.
Later a West Valley City K9 Officer spotted the vehicle in the driveway of a home in the area. UPD officers responded and collected enough evidence to take a woman and Whipple into custody.
During the police interview they say Whipple confessed to a prior robbery on April 11.th Police say they also consider Whipple a prime suspect in a Taco Bell robbery from April 23.rd
