SANDY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Utah Transit Authority reported a collision between a TRAX train and an SUV in Sandy.

UTA officials said the crash involved a Blue Line train at 8720 South and 200 East. They said a westbound SUV crossed the train tracks while the gates were down and the lights were flashing and crashed into the gate.

The train driver tried his best to activate his emergency brakes but was not able to brake in time before hitting the SUV in the front end, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky.

Neither the driver of the SUV or passengers on the train sustained any injuries.

Arky said the officer on scene believes the driver was distracted when he crashed into the gate.

All passengers on the train were transferred to a different train while the train involved in the crash was taken to the shop for repairs, Arky said.

Riders were told to expect some delays on the northbound Blue Line.
