PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) – The lives of a family of three were spared after an adult niece walked into their home and smelled smoke as they were all sleeping.
The fire broke out near 970 South and 500 West in Provo, according to fire officials.
The family consisting of two adults and one child were able to be evacuated in time before the fire engulfed the home and officials said the home had no working smoke detectors.
Fire crews said they were able to knock down the fire but are still investigating the cause of the fire. The family has been displaced as a result of the fire, according to officials.
Officials said “timing was everything” in this incident and the niece may have saved the lives of three family members Monday afternoon.
Officials remind everyone to check and make sure their smoke detectors work.
