LAS VEGAS (KLAS)- A sculpture dedicated to the victims of 1 October now has a new home.
The creator of the sculpture was looking for the perfect spot to for the work of art and found it at Big B’s Texas BBQ located in the area of St. Rose and Eastern.
Jay Rockow made the memorial two weeks after the shooting as a place where people could pay their respects to 58 lives lost.
The operator of the restaurant which the memorial now lives says it’s a welcomed addition to the business.
“We’ve had so many people since it’s just been here today and probably had 20 to 30 people show up and take pictures of it or just stand by and take pictures of it. So yeah, it’s pretty cool to have something that is iconic,” said Brian Buchner, operator, Big B’s Texas BBQ.
Buchner knew many people in the service industry who were affected by the tragedy.
“It needed to be displayed somewhere so I mean that’s the biggest thing. He built this for the city,” Buchner added.
It took Rockow hours to weld and laser cut the three huge pieces of steel and many more to powder coat the metal sculpture.
A fenced-in area has also been incorporated so people can place locks in remembrance of those we lost.
