DRAPER, Utah (News4Utah) A new recreation center breaks ground in Salt Lake County.

The new center created by the Parks and Recreation Department, Draper City and the Canyons School District will take 18 months to build and will be nearly 60,000 square feet.

Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams says the rec center will be affordable for everyone.

So, it will be facilities like this one that’s also the trails and the parks and other investments that we are doing throughout the Salt Lake valley as we build out really a network of recreational opportunities and help our residents to be active and outdoors and get out and enjoy this community,” said Mayor Ben McAdams.

The Draper Recreation Center will feature an 8-lane competition lap pool with seating, leisure pool with water slide and a field house.

The center is expected to open in early 2020.
