Natural gas leak forces evacuations in Layton

LAYTON, Utah (News4Utah) Layton City crews responded to “natural gas leak emergency” Tuesday evening.

It impacted the northeast portion of the city involving several streets around 3300 North 2250 East.

City officials said there were 21 houses evacuated on 2550 East and 2650 East as well as Mountain View Baptist Church. 

Firefighters worked with Dominion Energy to mitigate the hazard. The source of the leak was eventually identified and evacuations were lifted on 2550 East.

The gas leak was stopped around 4:11 a.m. Wednesday and Dominion crews continued to make repairs. 

City officials said the evacuation on 2650 E. will continue as the work is done. Dominion will contact residents and restore services when repairs are completed.
