National Choreographic Festival features local ballet company and celebrates women

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(News4Utah) The 2nd Annual National Choreographic Festival is bringing renowned ballet companies to Salt Lake City to present new works. Adam Sklute, Artistic Director for Ballet West, joined Nicea DeGering, to talk about how this festival celebrates women.

The festival spans over 2 weekends, with 2 different programs. The first weekend had standing ovations for Richmond Ballet and The Washington Ballet with Ballet West. The second weekend features Cincinnati Ballet, Charlotte Ballet and Ballet West.

All of the ballets feature women choreographers. All the visiting companies have female artistic directors, focusing on strengthening women voice in ballet and ballet leadership.

The festival continues through May 26 at the Rose Wagner Theater, 138 Broadway in Salt Lake City.
