WEST JORDAN (ABC4 News)- More than 2,000 kids in need this holiday season won’t go without breakfast thanks to their principal.
Students at Oquirrh Elementary were given gift-wrapped boxes of cereal Wednesday.
It started out as the principal’s project to provide the gift of breakfast cereal for all of her students over th winter break, but thanks to help from the Utah Food Bank it continued to grow.
Thursday principal Shauna Worthington surprised all 650 students at her school with the gifts.
“We thought it would be fun to send them each home with their how box so we started a cereal donation,” she said. “In just three weeks the project grew so big [that] we have collected boxes of cereal that we can give to every student at five schools.”
Principal Worthington says she wanted to make sure kids didn’t go without breakfast while they were away from school for the holidays.
