Mom in Toquerville child abuse case pleads guilty

TOQUERVILLE, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- The Toquerville mom accused of abusing and starving her 12-year-old son plead guilty to three counts of child abuse in court Tuesday.

Brandy Jaynes was originally charged in January with Intentional Child Abuse Causing Serious Injury, but in March charges were amended to three counts of Intentional Child Abuse Causing Serious Injury, all second degree felonies.

Prosecutors say she locked locked her son in the family’s upstairs bathroom for up to two years. When he was discovered he only weighed 30 pounds. Attorneys tell ABC4 the young boy is doing well in Foster Care. He has reportedly gained a substantial amount of weight.

The child’s father, Russell Jaynes, is charged with 3rd degree felony child abuse as well.

Brandy’s sentencing is scheduled for August 28th.
