Missing elderly man from Millcreek found dead

On July 15, 2018, Leon “Hy” Saunders, age 79, was found deceased in Holladay, UT.

The Saunders family is asking for privacy at this time. Below is a statement from them.

“We have the deepest gratitude for the incredible support you’ve shown Hy and our family. Hy was an incredibly kind and generous man who left an indelible impact on those he interacted with in every capacity. It is clear to us from the outpouring of love and this incredible search effort, that he is revered by those who knew him. The compassion showed by those who did not know him reflects the love and strong spirit of this community. Thanks to the many hundreds of volunteers, and united efforts of law enforcement, search and rescue and all others who responded. We are forever grateful to you. The family respectfully asks for privacy at this time.”

UPDATE: The search for Leon Saunders has continued Sunday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers wanting to help should go to the United Church of Christ at 2631E Murray Holladay Rd in Holladay.


UPDATE: A search has been planned for Saturday morning in an effort to help locate a missing 79-year-old man from Millcreek. 

The search is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at the LDS church on 3601 South Chapel Street in Millcreek. Organizers said they will meet there and further discuss where they will be searching. 


MILLCREEK, Utah (News4Utah) – Unified Police Department is asking the public to keep an eye out for a missing elderly man.

Leon Saunders, 79,  was last seen around 5:50 a.m. Friday in the area of 2730 East 4600 South.

Police say he is dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and “health issues related to his age.”

He is 5’8″ tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue Patagonia vest, black sweater and black sweat pants and sneakers.
