SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – The Miller Family Foundation make a major donation to the University of Utah. The fight against diabetes now has an additional $5.5 million.

World Diabetes Day is Tuesday, November 14. More than 30 million Americans have the disease and 7.2 million haven’t been diagnosed.

Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller said her husband Larry H. Miller died from diabetes. She spoke at the event.

“We have been involved in many things related to diabetes since his death, but this one really touched our heart and we knew it was the right platform for us to make a difference. We are whole heartedly behind it, we whole heartedly support it and we are very excited about the university leading the way and we know you will do great things,” said Miller.

Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
