KEARNS, Utah (ABC4 News) – A fugitive wanted for a shooting in Kearns was arrested this last week by the Metro Gang Unit.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said Jorge Barrera, 35, was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred just before midnight on Dec 4 near 5180 West 4820 South.
The suspects ex-girlfriend told police she was sitting in a car with a male when Barrera allegedly pulled up behind them and shot multiple rounds through the back window.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.
On Dec 12, detectives with the Metro Gang unit stopped a vehicle near 7750 South 4000 West in West Jordan on an unrelated incident. Barrera, who was a passenger in that vehicle was then taken into custody.
Barrera was released from prison in 2016 after serving two years of a five year sentence for aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person after he pulled up next to a family who he said was “wearing red” and questioned where they were from while pointing a rifle at them, telling them they “were all going to die”.
He was currently on parole at the time of the Dec 4 shooting incident.
