SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) – March For Our Lives announced Thursday it secured a venue for its student town hall.

The event was supposed to be held the Megaplex Theater in South Jordan, but it was abruptly canceled Wednesday. Megaplex changed its mind about hosting because the event appeared to be “escalating into a potentially contentious” situation.

March For Our Lives: #RoadToChange student town hall on Saturday, July 14 will now be held at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.

“We are very excited and overwhelmingly grateful to our community for coming together to assist and support us throughout this process,” said March for Our Lives SLC in a statement Thursday.

The event is open to the public, but there is a ticketing process. Tickets obtained for the Megaplex location through Eventbrite will still be valid.

Utah Gun Exchange, a company that has been following the national March For Our Lives tour to promote Second Amendment Rights, met with the student-led group Wednesday.

The company offered to let the March For Our Lives group hold its event at one of its facilities.  Utah Gun Exchange also said it does not condone “threats from outside groups of escalation.”

“Let’s keep working for a safer America while protecting our constitutional rights!” said the UGE in a Facebook post.

March For Our Lives addressed the invitation and said it was important to them to hold the event at a gun-free space. While Utah Gun Exchange offered to hire more security, the event space would not be made gun-free. March For Our Lives said it appreciated the gesture.

The group, founded by survivors of the Parkland, Fla. shooting, said it started working with legislative partners to craft meaningful legislation for the upcoming session.
