Man who was hit by train was walking on tracks, officials say

SOUTH SALT LAKE (ABC4 News) – One man is dead after he was hit by Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner train Thursday afternoon.

UTA said the man was struck by the train near 3733 South 300 West.

UTA spokesperson Carl Arky said he was trespassing on UTA property when he was hit around 2:30 p.m.

The man was walking northbound on the tracks and apparently did not see the northbound train coming up behind him. The train sounded its horn, and the man eventually made an effort to get out of the way, but not in time.

“He was in an area where no one is supposed to be walking,” said Arky. UTA reminds pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings anytime they are around railroad tracks.

The man was later identified as 40-year-old Calvin Curley.
