UPDATE: Police in Salt Lake City said the fire Sunday morning on Beck Street appears to be an accidental fire.
Upon arrival, crews found 51-year-old Jim Kavoukas already deceased inside the apartment. Kavoukas was alone at the time of the incident.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A small apartment fire in Salt Lake City lead to the discovery of a man’s body Sunday morning.
Dispatchers received a call around 8:30 a.m. on reports of smoke and flames coming from an apartment located at 1729 N. Beck Street. Callers also stated the man that lived there was deceased from what they said “appeared to be burns”.
Upon arrival, crews were able to keep the fire contained to the one apartment. Inside the apartment was the body of a male, age unknown.
Police are saying the death appears suspicious but would not elaborate on why they said that. The investigation into the fire and the cause of the man’s death is ongoing.
The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of family.
