SANDY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car as he fell onto a main road in Sandy Saturday night.
Sandy City Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said the accident happened at about 10 p.m. when a man was crossing 9000 South at 130 West, walking northbound. A man driving a Honda passenger car westbound struck the man, causing injuries to his head and shoulder area.
The man was crossing in a dark area, outside of the crosswalk. Witnesses told police the man tripped over the median and was struck by the car as he fell, according to Nielsen.
Nielsen said the woman who hit the man stayed on scene and was cooperating with police. The man was said to have been in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable condition at the hospital with serious injuries.
Sandy City Police originally reported the person driving the Honda that struck the man was a woman. It has been corrected to a man.
