SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A man is recovering Thursday night after police say he was stabbed in the head by panhandler.
According to police, the victim was in the drive-through of a Burger King on 3975 West and 4700 South when a man approached him with his window open.
The man asked for money, but the victim told him he would buy some food for him instead.
The suspect, later identified as Antonio Moreno, responded by pulling a knife and stabbing the man in the head and chest. After stabbing the victim, the suspect took off with his cell phone, wallet and cash, according to a probable cause statement.
The victim told police he recognized Moreno as a homeless man who lived in the laundry room of his apartment building.
Officers responded to the apartment complex in West Valley City and police say the found Moreno was covered in blood. He’s been booked on aggravated robbery and aggravated assault charges.
