SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- A man is behind bars after police say he attacked another man with a golf club in downtown Salt Lake City.
It happened Monday night around 7:45 p.m. at 141 East 200 South.
Police say the attack was unprovoked and that the victim didn’t even know the suspect.
“The suspect struck the victim in the head with a golf club before being subdued by passers-by, including a parking enforcement officer,” police said.
The suspect, 35-year-old Thomas J. Lopez, was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner, false information, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
Officers say Lopez spit on a crime lab technician while his picture was being taken.
