SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 31-year-old man previously charged with rape, is back in jail after being caught during two different undercover operations trying to entice minors into meeting up for sexual activity.
According to charging documents, on April 10, Kyler Craig Robertson of Salt Lake City began chatting with who he believed to be a 13-year-old on a social media app. Robertson asked the teen to send nude photos and sent a nude photo of himself in return.
Robertson asked the teen to engage in “sexual activity” then arranged to meet at 50 East Cleveland Ave in Salt Lake City, documents state.
Instead of meeting the teen, he was greeted by law enforcement.
During an interview with police, Robertson said he has a sexual interest in children and considers himself a danger to the community. He additionally admitted to viewing child pornography, documents state.
A $15,000 warrant for his arrest was issued on May 7 and Robertson was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on May 9.
Robertson bailed out of jail the next day and on May 30, he was again chatting on a social media app known for people who meet and engage in “gay anonymous sexual activity”, documents state.
According to charging documents, Robertson believed he was chatting with a 15-year-old and asked the teen to meet him at a park in Salt Lake City. When Robertson showed up at the park, located at 1500 West 400 South, he was greeted by law enforcement and taken into custody.
Robertson told police he believed there was a chance he was going to engage in sexual activity with the minor who he thought he was going to meet. He again told police that he is sexually interested in younger people who are as young as 12 years old.
He was booked back into the Salt Lake County Jail on one count second-degree felony enticing a minor over the internet. His bail has been set at $100,000.
A background check on Robertson shows he was charged for rape on April 10, 2010. Robertson pleaded not guilty and the victim in the case testified in a preliminary hearing where the judge bound the case over for trial in July 2010. For a reason not immediately made available, the case was dismissed in June with prejudice to file at a later time.
He also has prior arrests for simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, drug possession and DUI.
