DAVIS COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – A Syracuse man is dead after a head-on collision on Legacy Parkway in Davis County Friday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol said it happened around 7:45 a.m. A black 2004 Nissan Maxima was traveling northbound on Legacy Highway.

The Maxima was driven by a 16-year-old boy with a 16-year-old male passenger.  Troopers said the Maxima crossed over into the southbound lanes and crashed head-on into a gray 2005 Acura TL.

Witnesses reported the Maxima was driving recklessly prior to the collision.

The driver of the Acura, Hyrum Stevenson Stoker, 37 of Syracuse, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He died at the scene of the crash.

The 16-year-old driver of the Maxima was flown to University of Utah Medical Center in critical condition. The 16-year-old passenger of the Maxima was transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers believe aggressive and excessive speed may be a factor in the crash.

The Maxima was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. A Centerville police officer and assisting passers-by braved the flames to rescue the teens from their car.
