SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) – A man is custody after a SWAT situation in Sandy Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began around 3 p.m. as a fugitive apprehension operation with the U.S. Marshals and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (VFAST).
Police said they were attempting to arrest Nicholas WaitKevich, 25, wanted for aggravated robbery out of Salt Lake City.

VFAST tracked the man to the Axio 8400 Apartments at 50 East 8375 South in Sandy. Officers made contact with WaitKevich, but the say he refused to come out.
When witnesses on scene told officers he was armed, SWAT and negotiators were called to help.
“We have to take all precautions for the safety of the community and officers,” said Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera.
After communication with the negotiators, the WaitKevich eventually surrendered to officers and he was safely taken into custody around 4:45 p.m.
