BOX ELDER, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man is in critical condition after an explosion and fire at an industrial shop Wednesday evening.

Corey Barton Fire Marshal For Box Elder County Sheriff’s office said they received a call at 5:15 p.m. of an explosion, fire and burn victim at S&M diesel services in Bear River near 3585 West 5000 North. They said 25 firefighters from six different agencies were called to the scene.

Employees were working when a gas line was cut which Barton said caused the fire and explosion. The man who was transported to the hospital in critical condition was an employee of the Diesel service.

Officials said another employee sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion and fire.

Firefighters had to bring in specials fire tankers with water because there weren’t enough resources to knock down the fire. Officials said they were eventually able to knock down the fire and stop the leak.

The damage to the business is estimated at half a million dollars, said Barton.

This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as they become available.
