Update: An intruder wearing a clown mask invades a Salt Lake City home shooting a father and attacking a grandmother just after midnight early Sunday morning.
Now, police are searching for the suspect while the victim is in critical condition in the hospital.
It happened just after midnight in the area of 600 North and 1400 West.
The homeowner, who only wants to go by her first name “Kim” is speaking out with a message for her attacker.
“You are a coward. How can you even think of shooting someone with their two little boys right there. To continue to badger while they’re saying please don’t shoot my dad again. You are a coward.”
Kim says she was in her home when she heard a gunshot go off inside near the back.
She went to investigate, and found a man wearing a clown mask standing near one of her back doors.
The 65 year old says she lunged at the man who threw her down the stairs to her basement.
At the bottom of the staircase is where her son-in-law lay in a pool of blood while his five and six year old sons begged the shooter not to hurt their dad.
Kim says her son-in-law is in critical condition after being in surgery for several hours Sunday after he was shot in the shoulder.
As for Kim herself, she has a broken rib and a bruised spleen.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man is in critical condition after police say a man with a mask entered his home and shot him early Sunday morning.
According to Salt Lake Police Lt. Andy Leonard, officers were called out at 12:22 am Sunday morning, when someone called 911 and said a man with a mask had entered the home and shot someone.
When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and a female who was in the home but not shot. Lt. Leonard said his reports did not show if the woman was injured in the incident.
The man was transported to the hospital where he was downgraded to critical condition.
Lt. Leonard said they have homicide detectives investigating the shooting in the chance the man does not survive.
The description of the suspect is vague, only that he was wearing a mask. Police have not been able to interview the victim and f the woman who was in the home was interviewed, that information was not made available as of Sunday afternoon.
There are no additional updates from this morning, but police do not feel the public is in any danger.
