MIDVALE, Utah (News4Utah) – An investigation is underway to determine what lead to a man being hit and killed by a car while walking in the street.
Unified police say at 10:12 p.m. Monday, they received a call about the incident near 300 East 8000 South, which is the border line of Midvale and Sandy. When Unified Police and Sandy Police responded, they found the man laying in the middle of the road.
Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Jordan Heugly of Sandy. They say the driver was 15 years old with a learner permit. His passenger was a 16 year old female that was not related. Under Utah law 15 year olds with a learner permit may only operate the vehicle if:

- The responsible adult who signed for financial responsibility, who is a licensed driver, is occupying the seat beside the applicant;
Investigators say both the driver and passenger remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Any applicable charges are to be determined.
Unified Police say there’s no indication that the driver was intoxicated.
The area was blocked off through the night while police investigated the scene.
Everything reopened at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
