Man faces 29 felonies for sexually explicit conversations with young girls in Utah, other states

PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Provo man has been arrested for 29 felonies after an investigation discovered multiple conversations with underage girls that were sexually explicit in nature which included wanting to rape children as young as 4.

Arresting documents state Alan Jesse Hiatt, 31, was investigated after Provo Police Special Victim’s Unit detectives received tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding images containing child pornography sent through Facebook Messenger belonging to the suspect.

The conversations were between Hiatt and several underage girls. In one conversation, records state Hiatt knew he was speaking with a 15-year-old girl from Iowa who he convinced to send four naked photos of either herself or another young female.

In another conversation with a 14-year-old girl, he called himself “daddy” and said he wanted to come see her during the summer. Police records stated he convinced the girl to send naked photos of herself. Hiatt then told her he would rather her be there with him so they wouldn’t have to worry about her parents or siblings catching them together.

In a third conversation, Hiatt convinced another girl to send him at least two naked photos and then asked her if she wanted to be raped and hurt, court documents state.

Charging documents describe a conversation between Hiatt and another 15-year-old girl where he allegedly discussed sexually explicit desires, but the girl told Hiatt she wanted to wait until she is 18.  Hiatt convinced the girl to send over a dozen naked photos, according to records.

During this conversation, records state Hiatt sent the girl a picture of a 4-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy and asked her if she would sexually play with them.

During a video conversation with a 12-year-old West Virginia girl, he discussed going to Virginia and stopping to see her as well as kidnapping her. He told her he had been “perving on her since she was 10.”

There are several other messages with victims ages 12-16, from various parts of the country and police also discovered pictures of young boys and girls ages 4-8 exposing their privates.

There is currently an ongoing investigation to identify the juvenile victims in these cases. Police said it is believed one victim lives in or around the Ogden, Utah area and the rest appear to be in different parts of the country.

Hiatt was booked into the Utah County Jail on the following charges: 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all 2nd-degree felonies, six counts of dealing harmful material to a minor, all 3rd-degree felonies and three counts of enticement of a minor, all 2nd-degree felonies.

His bail has been set at $260,000. A background check for Hiatt does not find a criminal history in Utah.
