Man Crushed to Death by Steel Tube

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- An employee at SME Steel Contractors was crushed to death by a steel tube after a work accident Friday morning.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. at 5801 W Wells Park Rd. (9500 South). Officer Scott List with West Jordan Police Department said the 37-year-old was cutting a steel tube in half when part of it fell off and crushed him.

“The tube was about 30-40 ft wide and 10 ft long….thousands of pounds. Unfortunately he is deceased,” Officer List said.

He has since been identified as  Alfonso David-Grajeda.

It is unclear at this time what safety procedures were missed in this tragedy.
