WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – (ABC4 News) – A man was critically injured in a head-on collision on Bangerter Highway Saturday night.
According to West Valley City Police Sgt. Jason Johnson, the crash happened around 8 p.m at 2300 South in the northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway.
Johnson said one of the cars was headed southbound and for some unknown reason veered off into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with a second vehicle. (It was not made immediately clear which vehicle was traveling which direction)
The adult female driver of a white minivan received minor injuries. The male driver of a small passenger car was critically injured with life-threatening injuries and was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
Northbound Bangerter Highway was shut down for more than four hours as investigators recreated the crash and collected evidence. It is not known if drugs or alcohol were factors.
As of Sunday morning, all lanes are now open.
