Man crashes truck into motel and gas line causing evacuations

Local News
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A man said to be speeding down State Street in Salt Lake City crashed his pick up truck into a motel and caused everyone to evacuate Friday morning.
It happened just after 4:00 a.m. at 1185 South State Street.
ABC4 Utah talked to a man staying at the motel. Scott Dadah said the man driving the pick up truck crashed into his room. He woke up to a loud bang and ran outside after he smelled gas.
According to police on the scene, the man ran his pickup truck into a gas meter attached to Dadah’s room.
“A gentleman was trying to break the window to get the guy in the truck out. The guy in the truck crawled out the back window. He was disoriented and walked away. The other man chased him down and brought him back. He didn’t seem to be drunk it was just a hard crash,” said Dadah.
At one point the northbound side of State Street was closed while crews cleaned up the area.
Neither the driver nor any of the motel occupants were injured.
At this time everyone that was evacuated has been let back into their rooms except for Dadah. Officials need to clean up the gas before he is allowed to go back in.
