SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – A man who has been in prison since 1993 for killing a police officer was granted a parole date.

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decided to grant parole to Jason Pearson on March 17, 2020.

It will be almost 27 years since he was incarcerated on June 16, 1993 after he killed a police officer during a high-speed chase.

The board said it considered factors like treatment completion, behavior after commitment to prison and his age at the time of the offense when making its decision.

Pearson’s parole date is contingent upon completing a residential substance abuse treatment.
