WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – A Southern Utah man is in jail after being caught performing a sex act on a 2-year-old child last week at the child’s home in Washington County.

According to a probable cause statement, Jason Nez had been out drinking in Mesquite when he came to the child’s home around 5 a.m. The man is known to the child’s mother and has access to the home.

Around 5:20 a.m., the mother said she was awakened to her two girls, ages 2 and 3, making noises in their bedroom through the baby monitor.

When the woman entered the room, she found Nez performing a sex act on the 2-year-old while the 3-year-old was awake.

A brief altercation took place and Nez left the home. The woman then called police and then left to take her children to a safe place.

Police searched for Nez throughout the night but they were not able to locate him. He turned himself in a few days later.

Nez told police he has little memory of what happened but that he knows he did something wrong and “needs help”.

Nez is currently in the Washington County Jail and has been charged with 1st degree felony sodomy of a child and a class A misdemeanor lewdness involving a child. His first court hearing is scheduled for May 14.
