SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- The man that has worn the Utah Jazz mascot since 1994 has been fired.
Frank Zang, the spokesperson for the Utah Jazz, did not tell News4Utah why he was let go and said the man’s identity has never been released, out of respect for the character.
“The Jazz Bear will continue to be one of the most iconic mascots in the NBA. Out of respect for its character, which is separate from any employee ever associated with it, we have never discussed its identity. We do not discuss individual personnel matters,” Zang said in a statement to News4Utah.
Another performer will be wearing the Jazz Bear costume for Friday night’s home opener against the Warriors.
This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as they become available.
