Man arrested on automobile homicide charges after deadly South Jordan crash

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News)- A woman is dead and a man is behind bars after a crash on Lake Ave. in South Jordan Wednesday.

Police say around 10:40 a.m. the driver of a pickup truck ran a red light and crashed into a van headed northbound in the Lake Ave., Mountain View Corridor intersection. 

The driver of the pickup has been identified as Edilberto Lopez-Ramirez, 23. Police say he admitted to stealing the vehicle and drinking beer before the crash. He was transported to the hospital but is expected to survive.

The other driver, however, died on scene. She has been identified as 38-year-old Pearl Iata of Herriman.

Investigators say Lopez-Ramirez was involved in a hit-and-run before this incident.

He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for automobile homicide, auto theft, felony DUI, hit-and-run, reckless driving, and driving without a valid license.
