SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – A man was arrested after police said he stole a 24 pack of beer at gunpoint and then was caught during a carjacking nearby.

South Salt Lake City Police said 21-year-old Alexis Rene Payan walked into the Maverick at 514 W. 3900 South just before 2 a.m. and tried to grab a 24-pack of Budwiser but knocked it to the floor. He then grabbed a second case of beer, walked to the front door of the store, raised a black semiautomatic hand gun and told a male customer “come at me bro”.

Payan then exited the store without paying for the beer. He dropped the case of beer again but picked it back up and continued to walk along the front of the store where he raised the gun and looked back at the customer and employee inside.

A few hours later Unified police were investigated a carjacking and a officer on scene recognized Payan from the Maverick security footage. During post miranda discussions with police, Payan admitted to robbing the Maverick.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of 1st degree felony aggravated robbery and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. His bail is set at $100K.
