SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – A Salt Lake City man is recovering after getting upset with his neighbor over a noise complaint and being shot in the face Thursday night.

Salt Lake City Police Department officers were dispatched to 1794 Shannon Circle on report of a shooting just before 10 p.m.

Police were told the victim was in an argument with his neighbor, identified as 47-year-old Jimmy Riojas, about an ongoing noise dispute when the victim came downstairs, banged on the windows and door of Riojas and was calling him derogatory names.

Riojas said the victim kept trying to get inside his apartment and kept saying he was going to kill him and kept demanding he come outside and fight him. The victim told police Riojas was telling him to come inside his apartment so he could shoot him.

Both Riojas and the victim said that Riojas then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim and fired. The bullet struck the man in the left cheek and exited the left side of his face. The man’s injuries are not life-threatening and was taken to the hospital.
