PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A man accused of sexually assaulting and attempting to rob a woman in the bathroom on Rock Canyon Trail last week is in custody.
Police records say Wayne Ray Leas, 34, admitted to the act after he was arrested Sunday night.
They say the arrest would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the help of police at Brigham Young University.

On Nov. 9, documents say police at BYU responded to a report of man hiding in the bushes with a knife. After interviewing him they realized he matched the description of a suspect wanted by Provo police.
“Using the information gathered from BYU PD officers a photo lineup was created,” police records say. The victim in the Rock Canyon sex assault identified Leas as the man who attacked her.
Leas has a criminal history including aggravated assault with a weapon and theft. He is currently facing charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and forcible sex abuse.
