WEST JORDAN (News4Utah)- A man accused of raping and murdering a 6-year-old West Jordan girl in 2012 pleaded guilty in court on Thursday.
Terry Lee Black, 46 accepted an Alford plea, meaning he does not claim responsibility for the crime.
By accepting an Alford plea defendants admit had the case gone to trial the prosecution may have found them guilty based on evidence.
Black was sentenced 65 years to life.
Over the past few years there have bee competency issues blocking progress in the case, but Thursday a judge ruled Black was finally competent. Shortly after, he entered the plea.
The West Jordan Police Department reacted on Facebook saying “Members of our police department have worked tirelessly to bring this monster to justice”:
