WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 News)- Students and parents at Hillsdale Elementary were joined on Tuesday representatives from the Mexican Consul, West Valley City mayor Ron Bigelow and players from Real Salt Lake for a special celebration of Children’s Day – a national observance in Mexico that emphasizes the importance of literacy, family and reading.

Students participated in cultural songs and dances. ABC4 stopped by to see some of the action. Watch>>>

The Mexican Consul also donated books in Spanish to the elementary school.

Principal Deb Wooley told ABC4 Children’s Day is important because the school wants to show families of Hillsdale students how important they are and that the school is truly a part of the community and that parents and students should feel as they are a part of the Hillsdale and Granite School District family.
