Local businesses showcased during “Small Business Saturday”

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Today was “Small Business Saturday”. And for local business, today was either make or break.

Salt Lake leaders plus a famous actor gathered at Ken Sanders Bookstore in downtown Salt Lake today. They were asking the public to spend just 10 percent of their holiday dollars on local businesses.

They claim that would generate 108 million dollars for the local economy.

“When you shop local, you support your neighbor down the street,” Stan Penfold told Good4Utah. “It’s the one thing you can do to support the uniqueness that we love about Salt Lake City.”

That uniqueness is why TV star Reid Ewing has lived here for seven years. He plays Dylan on the ABC show “Modern Family”. He went shooping at Ken Sanders today and then moved to a juice shop up the street on 3rd South.

“I definitely shop local because the whole experience is a lot more fun,” Ewing told Good4Utah. “It’s not like walking into a Walmart. It has a personal touch.”

He and city leaders want to remind everyone that most of what you spend here on local businesses stays right here, boosting the local economy.
