Librarian dog helps students love reading

Local News

SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Chances are it’s been a while since you’ve been inside a school library.

South Ogden Junior High unveiled what could be the very first librarian dog in the state on their Facebook page Thursday.

The Goldendoodle’s name is Bentley. He is a certified therapy animal and according to the Weber School District, he “spends his days roaming.”

This isn’t an ordinary librarian though, as Bentley travels with the Latinos In Action students to help them engage and concentrate during their reading assignments. Some research even found that scores on standardized tests improved.

Bentley’s owner says he started bringing Bentley to school four years ago and has seen the difference ever since.
