LDS Bishop arrested for sex abuse of 2 teen boys

MAPLETON, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A Mapleton man is being accused of sexually abusing two boys while he served as their LDS bishop.

51-year-old Erik Wayne Hughes is facing several charges, including forcible sex abuse.

According to court documents, a young man reported he was sexually abused by Hughes three years ago. The victim said Hughes game him a pill in a smoothie and then abused him while he was under the influence of the pill. The victim said the abuse happened at least twice.

Wednesday another victim came forward. He claimed that five years ago Hughes abused him as well.Inappropriate pictures were sent between the then 17-year-old victim and Hughes. On one occasion the second victim said he was on a business trip with Hughes in Las Vegas when Hughes gave him a pill and then abused him.

Last month, charging documents say Hughes contacted the second victim and asked him to keep quiet about the things he had done.
