Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Kathleen Garn passed suddenly in her home Thursday. Her husband Jake Garn is a former mayor of Salt Lake City and former Utah senator.

Kathleen was Jake’s second wife; they were married in 1977. They blended their families and had two more children together.

Former Mayor Ted Wilson said of her, “She’s one of the great ladies of our community in so many ways. She was there all the time, smart on issues, smart on family matters, smart on things that meant a lot to Jake.”

Jackie Leavitt said, “Mike & I saw how Kathleen blended two families in love and kindness.  She supported Jake as he served in his demanding job as senator and was politically savvy herself.  Her most admirable characteristic was the strength with which she met life.  She accepted the challenges life brought and was open in sharing what she had learned from them.  I witnessed how she cared for others and welcomed all with her winning smile.”

No funeral arrangements have been announced.
