Investigators: Fire burning in Summit County is arson

Local News

SUMMIT COUNTY (News4Utah) – Firefighters are working to contain a brush fire burning east of Echo Reservoir Monday afternoon.

The “Tervels Fire” sparked along Interstate 80 near milepost 170, near a rest top toward Evanston.  Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be arson.

As of Thursday morning, Summit County officials estimate the fire is burning more than 536 acres with 48 percent containment.

Fire crews say the goal is to obtain 100% containment by the end of shift.

The Echo Creek Ranches area is located four miles east of the fire and is no longer in pre-evacuation status.

The one lane eastbound I-80 closure from mile marker 169 to 171 will be lifted Thursday.

Crews say they are monitoring the incoming thunderstorms and strong winds.

If you have any information about the fire, you’re asked to contact the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
