Instead of presents, Tooele girl asks for donations to help others for 11th birthday

TOOELE (News4Utah) – A Tooele girl is using her 11th birthday to give back to others.

So far, she’s raised more than $500 for the local Children’s Justice Center, a place that helps kids and their family in crisis.

Hunter Culley says she wanted to do something different and special this year for her birthday. So, she teamed up with her brother to help other kids in the area.

“I kind of like to give back. It makes me feel happy that I’m helping other people,” said Culley.

She told her friends who came to her party not to get her a present, but instead, bring a donation for the Children’s Justice Center.

She also set up a stand outside her house selling hot cocoa and bubble gum to raise more money. Hunter was out day and night, in the cold, to touch the lives of kids she doesn’t even know.

“I actually just wanted them to bring like presents and stuff, for the children so they could be happy, and I think that I already have enough stuff in my room, that other kids don’t have,” said Hunter.

She says she plans to make this an annual birthday tradition.
