‘I’m so sorry,’ Woman driver who killed 13-yr-old in crash sentenced

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A 13-year-old boy killed by a drowsy driver with marijuana in her system was remembered in court Friday, as that driver was sentenced to 210 days of jail time.

“As a mother, there is a bond with your children, and Baylor and I had an absolutely special bond,” said Staci Stout.

Her 13-year-old son Baylor was killed in July 2018 when he and his father — in the same truck — were hit by a vehicle that crossed into their lane.

The driver who caused the crash was Kali Hardman. During her sentencing Friday, she expressed remorse.

“I”m not going to stand here and try to make excuses for what I did,” said Hardman.

“I’m so sorry,” she told the judge.

Stout and his father were both in the same truck. His father remembered holding his son’s hand as he died — an emotional moment during the sentencing that had most of the gallery in tears. The judge even struggled with tears through much of the sentencing.

Baylor Stout had dreams of attending BYU and serving a mission to help people, according to those who spoke about him on Friday.

Hardman was sentenced to 210 days in jail, in addition to community service and drug treatment.
