SANDY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – The identity of those involved in the shooting that left a mother and her son dead have been released.
Police say the mother was 39-year-old Memorez Rackley. Her 6-year-old son was also killed in the shooting. The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Patterson from Draper.
Prior to the incident a Good Samaritan (with her daughter in the car) stopped to give Rackley and her kids a ride. Shortly after police say Patterson rammed the Good Samaritans’ vehicle and shot Rackley, her sons, and the Good Samaritans’ 8-year-old daughter.
Both Rackley’s other son (9) and the Good Samaritan’s daughter were taken to the hospital. As of Wednesday police say they are in stable condition.
A friend of Patterson spoke with ABC4 and said he believes Patterson’s use of steroids played a role in the shooting.
The family issued the following statement Wednesday.
Our family is heartbroken by the events of yesterday. We are focusing on supporting our injured son in his recovery. We are grateful to the Good Samaritan that stopped to help our family and our thoughts are also with their daughter who was injured. At this time we appreciate the prayers of so many. We ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn for our family. The Rackley family
