Local News

UPDATE: I-84 reopens around 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Officials say firefighters used a dozer line and firing operations in efforts to save threatened grain fields.

BOX ELDER COUNTY (News4Utah) – Interstate 84 is shut down in Box Elder County due to an active wildfire.

Crews have been dispatched to the scene to fight what is being called the “Goring Fire.” The fire is estimated to be burning about 7,000 acres. Officials say it was burning close to the roadway and smoke is impacting travel through the area.

I-84 is closed in both directions from Snowville to Tremonton. Utah Department of Transportation says northbound traffic is being detoured on I-86 via I-15 at Pocatello. Southbound traffic is being detoured via SR-83 at Howell.

Utah fire officials report no containment. There are no evacuations or structures threatened at this time.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
