UPDATE: Officials say the repairs to the bridge on Northbound I-15 at 800 South are open.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Three lanes of I-15 were closed as workers tried to repair a hole on the freeway bridge deck Sunday morning.

The emergency repair work was on the northbound lanes of I-15 at 800 South.

John Gleason, Utah Department of Transportation spokesperson, said they received a call from Utah Highway Patrol after troopers noticed what appeared to be a pothole on the freeway bridge deck at 800 South.

UDOT teams were dispatched to investigate and when they arrived, they noticed it was a hole and the debris had fallen onto the lanes of travel of 800 South.

“We are out here assessing damage, trying to figure out exactly what needs to be done to repair it,” said Gleason. “It is definitely causing some delays for motorists on the freeway.

Delays were felt back to 2100 South and the lane restrictions can be expected to last several hours.

Gleason said holes like this are not very common but with the amount of rain and the extreme weather this season, he said it did happen.
