Hunt for wanted fugitive in Murray neighborhood turns into major crime bust

MURRAY, Utah – (News4Utah)-The search for a wanted fugitive turned into a bigger bust than police may have been expecting Wednesday morning.

In addition to the Metro Gang Unit arresting the fugitive they were called out for, they also arrested a federal fugitive, two other wanted men, recovered stolen cars and stolen weapons.

According to the Metro Gang Unit, they received a tip that Jayce Kane-Fiaui was staying inside a home located at 1300 East 6489 South. The Metro Gang Unit and multiple other police agencies surrounded the home Wednesday morning and blocked off access in and out of the home.

Detectives say Kane-Fiaui eventually ran out of the home along with Frank Vilarino, a federal fugitive, Jeremy Gooch and Jason Hare. When Hare ran out of the house, police say he slashed one of their patrol cars.

All four men scattered into the neighborhood before K9s traced them to the backyard where they were arrested, police say.

After their arrests, investigators found multiple stolen cars and guns on the property. “It’s pretty shady,” said Raland Brunson who lives on the same street. “You see a bunch of cars in there. It’s behind this gate — this fence. If you look inside the fence you see all these cars parked in there. I’m like, ‘what kind of a ring is going on in there?’ It’s like, are they stealing cars? Are they trying to hide out?”
