Homes flooded after Salem hit with ‘100 year’ storm

Local News
SALEM, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Many Salem residents are dealing with flooding in their home after a strong storm hit Salem Wednesday.

Salem City Police Chief said Salem experienced a ‘100 year storm’ and received extremely heavy rain for a short period of time.

Police say the city’s drainage system could not handle the amount of water and at least four houses received major flooding. Many other homeowners are dealing with minor to moderate flooding.

Police say the flooding is citywide and not concentrated to one area.

“I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“All the rain, it was freaking insane. Just the downpour,” said Salem resident Brandon Griffiths.

“All of the water came over here and it kind of made a Niagara Falls kind thing with all the bricks and stuff, and then it went downstairs into my basement, and the window — my sister went in to try to save some of the stuff, because she saw it coming up on the window, and that’s when the window burst and it cut her leg, and she had to go to the hospital.”

Griffiths’ sister is recovering from her injury.
